Immaculate Heart Conference

First Friday, September 2021
This First Friday comes during Our Lady’s Thirty Days which begin with the Assumption and end with the feast of the Seven Sorrows.  There are many feasts related to our Blessed Mother during these days.  The month of August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and this devotion has a long history in the Church.  Many saints propagated it through the centuries and there are many stories about its efficacy such as the Miraculous Medal and Our Lady of Victories.  The purpose of the devotion is to honor the physical heart of the Blessed Mother and her love for the Blessed Trinity.  It is accomplished by veneration, confidence, compassion and reparation.

Dormition Of Mary

Assumption Of The Blessed Virgin 2021
Pope Pius XII during of the Holy Year of 1950 proclaimed the dogma that the Blessed Mother at the end of Her earthly life was taken body and soul into Heaven.  This overdue definition was not a new revelation but something given to the Church through the Apostles.  Dating from those days is an apocryphal account which describes in detail what happened at this momentous event of Our Lady’s Assumption.  Present day archaeology has unearthed the tomb used for Mary’s brief “sleep” before Her glorious entrance into Heaven.  There are many reasons for the bestowal of this honor but this is a touching one: how could our Heavenly Mother care for us, Her children, without having Her heart with Her to do so?  Do not hesitate to approach such a Mother, even to ask for miracles.

Queen of Angels And Men

Conference On First Friday, May 2021 – Feast Of St. Stanislaus
St. Stanislaus is the patron saint of Poland and an example of a bishop who gives his life to protect his flock.  The month of May is dedicated to Our Lady’s queenship and ends with Her feast day.  Pope Pius XII instituted the feast with an encyclical that sounds prophetic in its words: “especially in troubled times the world has turned to the Blessed Virgin Mary as Queen”. This is for several reasons beginning with Her divine maternity which started at the Annunciation.  By Her “fiat” God became man and thereby showed that all graces would come from Him but through Her. The Blessed Mother is Queen by being the highest of any creature in charity and all the other virtues.  She also has the title by earning it with Our Lord at Calvary as His cooperator in redemption.  We must proclaim Her sovereignty and draw close to Her.

She Reaches Out to Us

Feast Of The Assumption 2019
This is Our Lady’s greatest feast which marks the triumphant conclusion of her life when God took her body and soul into heaven where she reigns today.  This is an ancient feast which requires us to thank God for the Assumption.  We read this in the definition of the dogma by Pope Pius XII on All Saints day 1950.  Our Lady’s thirty days begin today and are special for an increase of piety among the faithful.  Our heavenly Mother stretches her maternal arms out to us to save us from perdition.  We should pray the Memorare or Hail Holy Queen to be brought back.

The Triumph of the New Eve

Feast of the Immaculate Conception 2015
Although the Blessed Mother was given the unique privilege of being preserved from Original Sin, this does not mean that she was not redeemed.  It simply means that she was redeemed in a more perfect, anticipatory manner.  She was conceived with an initial plenitude of grace, yet her share in God’s life continually increased in her until she was taken back to Heaven.  Adam was made God-like with the gift of Sanctifying Grace and mankind was meant to remain in perfect harmony with the Divine.  Because Adam was made master of creation, he was given a sign to show his subordination to God – the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.  The devil brought evil into the world by convincing Eve to tempt Adam.  We see in the book of Genesis how quick God is to offer mercy after we fall.  Immediately after the sin of Adam was revealed, God promised a Savior who would come through the new Eve, the woman never touched by sin.

We Must Desire Sanctity

All Saints Day 2015
Today we rejoice because this is the day on which the Church celebrates all her children who have overcome the world.  In the process by which a saint is canonized, it must be determined that they expressed nothing contrary to faith and morals, and that they practiced virtue in a heroic way.  After this, the Church waits for God to affirm the individual’s sanctity by miracles attributed to their intercession.  It is not enough for a Catholic merely to recite the Creed, he must believe it and practice it.  For every walk of life, there is a saint who has lived it as an example to follow.  Today we adore God as we honor His saints, and desire to make the little sacrifices necessary on our road to holiness.

Heartfelt Gratitude To God

13th Sunday after Pentecost 2015

The Old Law was given to the Hebrews to protect them from the evil practices of the pagan world.  We can follow their example today by remaining on guard against worldly influences and striving to be examples for those outside the Church.  The Gospel informs us of the importance of gratitude.  We should daily thank God, from the bottom of our hearts, for the gifts we are continually given.  The Holy Mass is not only an act of worship, but the most perfect thanksgiving offered to God.

The Octave Day of the Assumption is the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  Our Lord desires that we honor His Mother’s heart, which endured so much anguish for our sakes.  We must all surrender to the Immaculate Heart of the Mother of God.

What Is Promised Through Her

Feast of the Assumption 2015

This Gospel recalls the mystery of the Visitation, in which we see Elizabeth as an old woman humbling herself before the young Virgin Mary.  A momentary gift of reason was given to the infant, St. John the Baptist, in the womb of his mother when he received the revelation that he was in the presence of the Redeemer.  On that day the Blessed Virgin was recognized for the first time as the Mother of God.

The Dogma of the Assumption was proclaimed by Pope Pius XII in modern times, but it was held, from the earliest days of the Church, that those who dared to question this dogma were enemies of God.  Even the saints are looking forward to that final day when their souls will be united with their bodies in Heaven.  This feast is a proclamation of that future day on which we will feel for the first time the embrace of our Blessed Mother.

Heart Speaks To Heart

Sermon From Feast Of The
Assumption 2014
The best material for prayer is the word of God found in Sacred Scripture and we are given ample aid for prayer in the texts of this Mass.  Judith is the perfect type of the Virgin Mary because it is the Mother of God who truly “cut off the head of the enemy.”  She has conquered the devil and sin and was raised above the rest of men from the moment of her Immaculate Conception as a preparation for the Incarnation.  Elizabeth was the first to recognize this young girl as the Mother of God.  The Assumption is the product of divine power, because it was her Divine Son Who brought His Mother to Heaven.
