Grace Of Love

Wedding on May 3, 2019
The marital bond formed today will be a beacon to the world of sacramental love and the grace given.  The married couple shares in the priestly life in a way today and is a beautiful reflection of the Blessed Trinity.  The grace received sanctifies today and continues to do so in the future.  The couple will remember this day and the heaven it foretells for them in union with God.

Thank God For Gift Of Faith

Low Sunday 2019
The Epistle draws the comparison between the Persons of the Blessed Trinity and the witnesses left for us in the world: The Spirit, the water and the blood.  The Gospel about doubting Thomas reminds us that we owe much more to St. Thomas for our Faith than to St. John who believed in the Resurrection so quickly.  As we enter the chapel we should leave all worldly concerns behind and be grateful for the Faith that God has died to give us.

History Of The Resurrection

Easter Sunday 2019
The details given in the Gospels about Our Lord’s rising from the dead provide the compelling evidence for our faith in the Resurrection.  Christ first came to visit His own Mother and spent time with her until His appearances around the sepulchre.  Later in the afternoon He walked with the two disciples to Emmaus and ended the day by seeing the apostles in the upper room.  We must rejoice with them over our King’s Victory.  There are some in the world who think they can conquer Our Savior.  These have been deceived by the devil.

Saviors Of The World

Easter Vigil 2019
God created on the first day of the week at midnight, He was born at midnight and we keep vigil now waiting for His rising at midnight.  All the infinite merits of Christ’s Passion and Death were won on the Cross but only applied to us when He rose from the dead and now distributes these treasures through the Liturgy.  This vigil has us renew our baptismal vows and witness a Baptism.  All this prepares us for the Easter Mass when we offer our sacrifice with Christ and unite with Him in Holy Communion, the foretaste of heavenly glory.

Victory Was Won Today

Good Friday 2019
The Church is in sorrow and desolation on God’s Friday because it is the day He died for our sins.  This should move us to deep repentance for what our sins have done and thanksgiving to Our Lord for His great love in redeeming us this way.  The Solemn Liturgical Action for today includes the opening prostration and prayer; the prophecies and Passion, solemn collects, veneration of the Cross and finally Holy Communion.  All lead us to victory with Christ.

Pledge Your Loyalty

Holy Thursday 2019

St. Paul reminds us in the Epistle not to receive the Body of Christ unworthily.  It is a betrayal and a lie to use a sign of love as one of hatred the way Judas did with his kiss.  The Church interrupts her time of penance and sorrow to express her joy over the gifts of the Holy Eucharist, the Mass and sacred priesthood.  Christ thought these important enough to shed His Blood to give them to us.  We must love these precious treasures as much as possible and renew our love and dedication to them.

Triumph Tinged With Sorrow

The sacramental of the palm is a sign of victory and means of grace.  Use it and the liturgy to fight off the devil who tries to separate us from the Mass and its ministers.  Christ planned His triumphant procession into Jerusalem, the Holy City, to proclaim His Kingship clearly.  This was so evident that He was condemned later in the week for being the King of the Jews.  Today is the original feast of Christ the King but because of the note of sorrow the new feast was instituted.  The entire Holy Week is encapsulated in today’s Mass and ceremonies.

Live In A Spirit Of Prayer

Passion Sunday 2019
Passion Sunday begins an intensification of our Lenten penances with the veiling of the crucifix and statues which are spiritually encouraging to us. The key to this season is to strive to have the thoughts of Christ, especially those of His Passion. With this, prayer and hope we can rely on God and His promises.

Sacrament Of Life

Laetare Sunday 2019
After learning about the wonderful saints of this week, Francis of Paola, Isidore of Seville and Vincent Ferrer, the Epistle of St. Paul about the son of the slave girl and the heir of the free woman is explained.  Then the Gospel, which is the beginning of St. John’s famous sixth chapter about the Bread of Life, describes the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes by Our Lord and how His apostles shared in this miraculous power.  All this prefigures the Holy Eucharist and the power of transubstantiation which Christ would give to His priests.  Coming in the middle of Lent, this Sunday encourages us to persevere in our penances and to draw strength to do so from Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

Our Lady’s Fiat

Feast Of The Annunciation 2019
The Annunciation changed all of history as God became a Man this day.  The fall of Adam and Eve was repaired by the archangel, St. Gabriel, asking the New Eve to become the Mother of God.  Our Lady prophesied that all generations will call her blessed and we fulfill this prophecy with every Hail Mary.  We should say the Angelus with devotion.
