22nd Sunday After Pentecost 2021 Still in the month of the Holy Rosary, we are reminded of the 15 Promises Our Lady made concerning those who recite it. The Mass texts today emphasize prayer which is essential as we approach the day of the Lord, whether in the particular or general judgments. Equipped in this way we join in St. Paul’s joy while in chains. The Gospel shows Our Lord exposing the malice of His enemies who attempt to set a trap for Him about paying taxes to Caesar. Christ our King adds that we must render to God what is God’s. We must all practice fortitude by praying. #20211024M
21st Sunday After Pentecost 2021 Tomorrow is the feast of St. Luke the Evangelist and today is the feast of St. Margaret Mary the Apostle of the Sacred Heart. The Epistle for this Mass was written by St. Paul during his imprisonment and the armor of his jailers was a reminder to him of the defensive and offensive weapons that we have in our spiritual combat, not with natural forces but, with preternatural forces on high. Lucifer is the leader of these proud fallen demons who are the cause of most of our temptations. Sudden, disturbing, prideful, lying and divisive characteristics mark these attacks from the devil. The Gospel warns us to be merciful because we have received mercy. The Divine Maternity has an important attribute that honors Our Lady’s virginity before, during and after Christ’s birth. The Holy Rosary is our great means of sanctification. #20211017
20th Sunday After Pentecost 2021 It is important not to waste time especially with today’s technology which causes many distractions. It is more common now for people to be depressed, sad and lonely more than at other times in the past. This is because they are not looking to God and the Blessed Mother. Especially during this month, we should turn to the Holy Rosary which has many consoling promises attached to its recitation. We should frequent the sacraments like Penance after making an examination of conscience and we should attend Mass with reverence and attention. #20211010K
19th Sunday After Pentecost 2021 Today is also the feast of the “greatest saint of modern times”, St. Therese. The Gospel for this Mass demonstrates the mercy and justice of God in the parable of the wedding feast. Those were punished for mistreating the messengers thus fulfilling God’s justice. God’s mercy was shown to those who were invited afterwards. The mercy and justice of God are understood as attributes of God which can only be spoken of in that way by analogy. #20211003B
1st Friday Conference, October 2021 This conference begins with a sobering account of the current problems with the validity of the sacraments because of the devil’s hatred of priests and the means of salvation. The story of today’s Saint Remy is encouraging in the face of this new paganism because this holy bishop baptized Clovis which began the life of the eldest daughter of the Church – France. This month is dedicated to the Holy Rosary and quotations about it from the saints encourage us to pray it devoutly. Finally, we recall our holy pope, St. Pius X, who enriched the Church and souls during his papacy. His love for God and neighbor was evident in his efforts to preserve the Faith pure and undefiled, to honor Our Lady as Co-Redemptrix, to emphasize the Liturgy, increase devotion to the Holy Eucharist, increase study of the Bible, restore Gregorian chant, revise the Code of Canon Law, reform the Breviary and much more. His sanctity was attested by conversions and miracles during his lifetime and during this canonization process. He is our strong protector and supporter today against the evil of modernism. #20211001
Feast Of St. Michael The Archangel Today’s new vestment is a beautiful depiction of St. Michael defeating the devil who rebelled against God. St. Michael received his name from his response to Lucifer’s challenge to the Blessed Trinity. The leader of the good angels asked “who is like God” (Quis ut Deus)? And that became his name Michael. On this day in the fifth century a church was dedicated to God in St. Michael’s honor and this feast celebrates that event and honors all the spirits called angels who are organized into nine choirs with different functions. We have prayers and devotions which honor St. Michael and the angels. He is the patron of many and one of our own was recently saved by invoking this protecting spirit. A powerful exorcism against the devil invokes St. Michael’s aid and the uplifting hymn from today’s breviary praises him. #20210929K
17th Sunday After Pentecost 2021 Today is also the feast of St. Januarius who was martyred in the fourth century. A vial of his blood is preserved in Naples in a reliquary and on his feastday it often liquifies to show the saint’s protection of the city. It did so today. On this day in 1846 the Blessed Mother appeared to a shepherdess and a young boy who were pasturing cattle on the side of a hill in the French Alps. Our Lady explained how disregard of the second and third commandments by profaning her Son’s Holy Name and missing Mass and doing servile work on Sundays were the causes of the famines etc. that were punishing the people. She gave the children prophecies of terrible future events if the world did not convert and do penance. #20210919K
Seven Sorrows Of The Blessed Virgin Mary 2021 This is an apologetic against calling the Co-redemption foolishness because it offends against the Faith and personal devotion. The teaching that Our Lord, Who did not need any assistance in saving the world, deliberately chose to have His Blessed Mother participate in His redemptive act is proximate to Faith and so must be believed and loved by Catholics in order to reach heaven.  St. Pius X and Benedict XV were recent popes who taught this clearly from quotes we have in their encyclicals. These show the doctrine and explain the difference between the redemption by Christ out of justice and that co-redemption by Our Lady congruently. To deny or demean this imperils one’s eternal destiny. On the personal side, this devotion to the ever Virgin Mary under the title of Co-Redemptrix and Mother of Sorrows made Father’s spiritual life deeply attached to her and led him to dedicate his priesthood to her under this aspect. Many events of his life show this and call for this defense of our heavenly Queen. #20210915
