This is one of the most solemn liturgical days of the year, because it was on this night that Our Lord instituted the priesthood, the Holy Eucharist, and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.  The Passover meal of the Chosen People was a prefiguring of the Holy Mass.  We are given the privilege, if we are worthy, to receive the Body and Blood of Our Lord.  This morning, the Holy Oils were blessed by the bishop.  When we are anointed in the sign of the cross with Holy Chrism, we are given strength against the devil and strength to overcome our own predominant faults.  Just as oil has been used for fire and for the purpose of healing, the anointings we receive are meant to ignite the fire of divine love in us and impart health to our souls.  We never know when God will call us, so we must remain always in the state of grace and foster the divine life within our souls through the Sacrament of the Altar.  We should never take for granted the great gifts we have been given.
