St. Rose of Lima
August 30, 2025
A century after the discovery of the New World there was born at Lima, the capital of Peru, the first flower of holiness to bloom in South America. Her name was Isabella but her fresh complexion earned her the name of Rose by which she is always known. From her childhood she lived solely for the love of our Lord, bearing with uncomplaining patience the long illness from which she suffered and the opposition of her family. She was a Dominican Tertiary. St. Rose of Lima died on August 24, 1617 at the age of thirty-one.
