St. John Bosco

January 31, 2028

In St. John Bosco the liturgy honors a saint whose soul was all simplicity, joyfulness and zeal, whose trust in divine Providence overcame every difficulty and persisted through every obstacle. Born near Turin in 1815, St. John Bosco devoted his life as a priest to the poor, to prisoners and to all the unfortunate of the capital of Piedmont, but especially to poor and homeless children. In order to shelter them and educate them and help them to begin an honest way of life, with no other resources than his unwavering faith he founded several institutions and also two religious congregations, the Salesian Fathers in 1868, and the Daughters of our Lady Help of Christians in 1876. St. John Bosco died in Turin in 1888, leaving behind him the reputation of a great miracle-worker.
