St. Joachim

August 16, 2022

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 16 of August, repeating indefinitely

Desiring to associate St. Joachim with the triumph of his blessed daughter, the Church transferred his feast from March 20 to August 16, the day after the Assumption. Leo XIII whose baptismal name was Joachim, raised this feast and that of St. Anne to the rite of double of the second class. The name of Joachim is not mentioned in the Gospels, but it is found in one of the apocryphal Gospels, the Proto-Gospel of St. James, which is generally regarded as of early date. Joachim means “The Lord’s preparation.”
