St. Gregory the Wonderworker
November 17, 2016
St. Gregory was bishop of Neocaesarea in Asia Minor and was famous for the holiness of his life and his wisdom, but even more so for the numerous miracles that he wrought. Even during his lifetime he was known as “Thaumaturgus,” the wonderworker. His faith was of the sort that “can move mountains.” As a disciple of the great Origen he defended the doctrine of the Church against the heretical Paul of Samosata. He suffered greatly in the persecution of Decius (249-251) and then from the barbarian invasion. He died between 270 and 275, after thirty years as a bishop.
