Sermon

We Depend on God’s Grace

St. Lawrence and early deacon was called to defend the Church and protect the faithful. He was arrested and commanded to turn over the riches of the Church. When he presented the poor faithful as the “real treasures of the Church” to the Roman Prefect, he was condemned to death and heroically endured great torments for the Faith.

In the Epistle for this Sunday, St. Paul tells us how unworthy he is to be called an Apostle, and how he was elevated by the grace of God. This should give great confidence to us who are so dependent on God’s constant help. We too groan in our need as Our Lord did in the Gospel, and our heavenly Father will hear our prayer.
