The Sweetness of Our Father

The words of General Lucian Truscott, when speaking of the debt we owe to the soldiers who sacrifice their lives for us, along with the moving poetry of Joyce Kilmer who Christianizes their sufferings, should have a profound impact on how we view the trials we must endure.

We profess our faith through our prayer. In this Mass St. Paul reminds us in the Epistle that God is truly our Father. We may have the blood of our parents flowing in us, but we have our heavenly Father’s life through His grace. The steward in the Gospel was exceptionally clever in his evil ways, and Our Lord asks why we are not just as single-minded in the pursuit of our eternal goal.

We read of Solomon building the temple in the Divine Office, and how God warned him of the dire consequences of turning his back on Him. The greatest gifts we have received are the souls entrusted to us, are we doing everything we can to save them?
