Sermon

The Summer Easter

A person can regain the state of grace and his lost merits after falling into mortal sin if he makes an act of perfect contrition; however, one must go to confession before returning for the reception of the Holy Eucharist.

In this Epistle, St. Paul reasserts the fact of Our Lords Resurrection from the dead, despite the constant attacks from the devil and his attempts to deny it. The word used by Christ in curing the man in the Gospel has been repeated millions of times at the baptisms performed by Catholic priests. Although this Sunday occurs later in the Summer, the Church presents us with this Epistle and Gospel to recall the feast of Easter and the sacrament of Baptism. With this sacrament we receive the great gift of character on our soul, which is the spiritual ‘mark’ we will bear for all eternity. We are buried with Christ and rise with new life. Let us thank God for allowing us to participate, through His grace, in the glory of His Resurrection.
