Safe in the Towers of God

If someone forgets to mention a serious sin in the sacrament of Penance, this does not invalidate their confession; however, they must mention it in their next confession. Christ gave His Apostles the power to forgive sins but, because they cannot forgive what they do not know, we are required to make our sins known to the priest. In the Gospel we read of Our Lord forgiving the sins of the crippled man before He cured him. We should always take advantage of the sacrament of penance and remember that in addition to removing sins from our soul, it is meant to be a great help in our sanctification.

The church should be our refuge from the world. Although our problems do not go away completely, we should leave them at the door when we enter God’s house, and we will be reinvigorated by assisting at Mass. When we step back into the world we will have to pick up our burdens once again. But they will be easier to carry because Someone will be carrying them with us. The consoling words that begin Pope Pius XI’s encyclical on the Divine Maternity assure us of our coming victory. History shines the light of truth on everything, and all the good we do now will not escape the eyes of God. We must remain firm and faithful in this chaotic world, relying on the Mass and the holy Rosary to see us through.
