Sermon

No Sin Beyond God's Mercy

If we knowingly conceal a mortal sin in confession, the sins we confess are not forgiven. This terrible mistake of concealing a sin is most often caused by the shame of the sinner; however, the penitent should always remember that his confessor too is a sinner. In hearing the humble confession of shameful sins, the priest’s respect for the penitent only increases. Also, the fear that the priest may reveal in any way details about one’s confession should be allayed by recalling the strength of the sacramental seal.

When a person dies, if he is in the State of Grace but has not made up for all his sins, he willingly casts himself into Purgatory that he might endure the punishment due to him and more quickly be united with God. If he is not in the State of Grace, he cannot help but cast himself into Hell rather than remain in the presence of the Almighty. We die as we live, so we must live always in God’s grace. No matter how great our sins, God will offer forgiveness till the moment of our death.
