Do You Neglect Your Angel?

The feast of St. Michael honors all the angels, with St. Michael as their leader and standard bearer. He has come to the aid and protection of the faithful on many occasions throughout history, including his appearance to Emperor Constantine and ending the plague under the reign of St. Gregory the Great.

The angels were created by God, not only to honor Him, but also to serve as our examples and to act as messengers between God and man. Angels are pure spirits that have an intellect and free will, but no body. There are nine choirs of angels divided into three hierarchies: the Seraphim, Cherubim, and Thrones who are the closest to God in Heaven; the Dominations, Virtues, and Powers, who are given special charge over the material universe and the forces of nature; and lastly, the Principalities, Archangels, and Angels who are closest to us. A wise Catholic will always ask the angels to help him in lifting his mind and heart to God in prayer. Those who foster a devotion to their guardian angels will be sensitive to angelic guidance throughout their lives. Just as St. Michael stood against Lucifer and all his demons, he will stand for us and protect us against their onslaught, if we would only invoke him.
