Sermon From The Feast Of Saints Peter & Paul 2014 The gates of hell will not prevail against the Church because Christ protects it and has built it on the rock of St. Peter. We know much about St. Peter from the Gospels and about St. Paul from the Acts and the Epistles. They mirrored Christ. St. Peter is highlighted by his conversion which drew Our Lord to his humility and sincerity. St. Peter as Vicar of Christ on earth is the the means of our relationship with God. Saints Peter and Paul are models of the priesthood and religious life. Vocations should be inspired by this feast to follow their example. St. Ignatius says that we should presume to be a priest unless told by competent guides that it is not for us. All are called to the priesthood and/or religious life. #20140629S
Sermon From The 3rd Sunday after Easter 2014 ✟Father Violette We know that God is every quality that is good and the Blessed Mother is the creature closest to imitating this infinite perfection. She is the model that mothers should imitate. Heaven, where we are immune from all suffering, is meant to be our home forever. We forget how close God is to us during this life. He will remain with us even when we sin as long as we do not sin mortally. We are sustained by His thought of us. #20140511V
Sermon On Holy Thursday 2014 This day we celebrate the institution of the Mass, the Holy Eucharist, and the Priesthood – the only vocation created directly by God. The saints tell us that it would be easier for us to exist without the Sun than without the Mass. Our presence at the Mass shows God’s love for us, because He gives us the grace to come, and it allows us to show our love, fidelity, and loyalty to Him. God has promised a great reward to those who stand with Him, and we know that it is only through the Mass that we will receive that reward. Let us make reparation and proclaim our loyalty through the Sacrifice of the Altar. #20140417
Sermon From 11th Sunday After Pentecost 2012 Honor should be given to a priest, not because of who he is in himself, but because of the character he possesses through the sacrament of Holy Orders.
When reading the words of St. Paul’s Epistle we have hope for our enemies. St. Paul persecuted the Church of Christ, but by God’s grace he was converted. We must pray for those who persecute the Church of Christ today and do what we can to make up for the blasphemies and insults that the Blessed Mother and Our Lord endure. No matter how bad the crisis in the Church and society appear to be, we are assured that God will triumph in the end. The victory will come, and we will be filled with joy and thanksgiving, but only if we remain faithful. #20120812M
Sermon From The 10th Sunday after Pentecost 2012 ✟Father Violette The Sacrament of Holy Orders provides an increase of Sanctifying Grace as well as a special sacramental grace which aids the priest to live according to the dignity of his vocation.
The words of the liturgy chosen by the Church always perfectly reflect the intention we should possess for each day of the year. As viatores, or wayfarers on the road to Heaven, Our Lord gives us constant assistance to bring us to our destination. After a child receives baptism, he has all the infused virtues with the grace given to his soul. However, if we do not put the virtues and gifts we have received into practice, they will remain forever dormant within us. The Gospel instructs us in the importance of examining our conscience. Our Lord desires us to practice the external good works of the pharisee while maintaining the humility of the publican. #20120805V
Sermon From 9th Sunday After Pentecost 2012 Catholics should be familiar with the story of St. Martha and what it teaches us about the importance of prioritizing the spiritual life over the good works of an active life. There are many who so spend themselves in “good works” that they have no time left for Our Lord. We should practice ardent, frequent, and brief prayers throughout the day.
Saints Abdon and Sennen are two saints from Persia. They were known for their great charity to the poor and needy, and in particular for their dedication to burying the dead – that corporal work of mercy which led to their arrest and martyrdom. The early devotion towards these two saints demonstrates the universality of the Church.
After being badly wounded in war, St. Ignatius of Loyola spent much of his convalescence reading the lives of the saints. It was this practice of spiritual reading that led to the conversion of his worldly life, and subsequently the founding of the Society of Jesus, with its countless missionary journeys throughout the world.
St. Alphonsus Ligori followed a vocation despite the great opposition from his father. He is considered one of the chief moral theologians of the Church.
Through divine inspiration Saint Peter Julian Eymard knew that he must dedicate his life, along with the religious orders he founded, to the perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
St. Dominic met with great difficulty in converting the Albigensians to the Faith, until he, at the request of Our Lady, begin to use the Holy Rosary in combination with his preaching. With the help of this powerful prayer, he experienced astounding success in his mission. #20120729
Sermon On The 3rd Sunday after Pentecost 2012 ✟Father Violette In our day, when fatherhood is so attacked, all those who belong to this vocation must redouble their efforts to live up to their calling. A true father is unselfish, prioritizing his obligations before all else. It is a vocation which requires selfless solicitude at all times, but we are promised superabundant help from God to progress continually in this state of life.
Aware of our great need, the liturgy of the Church is constantly imploring God’s help for us. We must rely on God’s infinite mercy, while never forgetting is infinite justice. We are asked to remain confident and trustful, in an age of distrust, and we are assured that Our Lord will always provide the help we need. #20120617V
4th Sunday After Easter 2012 Christ told His Apostles to pray lest they enter into temptation, and this was an instruction to us as well. How will we make an answer for our negligence when we are judged? We will reap the consequences if we treat the things of God with contempt. We should feel at home in the chapel while we watch with Our Lord.
The way we live is the way we die, so we must be preparing every day for a good death. We are tempted the most at the moment of death, so we should pray daily that we are given the gift of Extreme Unction before our end. #20120506K
Feast of the Holy Family 2012 During this season the same gift given to the Gentile nations through the Magi is once again given to us. The divinity of Jesus Christ is demonstrated to each of us. The events and mysteries of Our Lord’s early life are made present once again, as if we were there to witness them firsthand.
When the Gospel says that Jesus “increased in wisdom, age, and grace,” it refers to Our Lord in His human nature. The human mind of Christ not only possessed the beatific vision but also all the secrets of nature. Along with this, in His human mind He also had acquired, experiential knowledge and was capable of increasing in this knowledge.
St. Joseph trustingly followed God’s guidance throughout his life. And just as he provided for all the needs of the Holy Family, St. Joseph has provided for the needs of our community which has put its special trust in him. #20120108
At the time of the Nativity of Christ many learned pagans were leaving the old, polytheistic beliefs. This was an era in which the pagan world was searching for truth. It was also soon after the time of the Babylonian captivity of the Hebrews. During this pivotal moment in history the Incarnation took place. There were two manifestations of the birth of Christ – one to the Jews by promise and the other to the Gentiles by privilege. God sent a message to the Wise Men in a way that they would understand, with the use of a star. Of all those who observed this mysterious star, only these few Magi had the courage to follow their vocation. The prophecies of the coming Messias were known to the people of the East because of the Babylonian captivity and their fulfillment was recognized by the Wise Men. The moment which changed the universe forever finally came, and the Savior was born. Soon after St. Joseph found a house where the Holy Family could live. It was here that the Magi met the Redeemer of the world and adored Him as representatives of all the Gentile nations. #20120106
