My Flesh Has Been Renewed

11th Sunday after Pentecost 2018
The feasts for this week give cause for us to thank God and take strength in upholding the faith. This Mass for the Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost recalls Our Lord’s Resurrection and the Easter sacraments of Baptism and Holy Eucharist. St. Paul lists all the witnesses to Christ’s Risen Body and the Gospel relates the story of the healing of the deaf and dumb man. The exact gestures and words of Jesus are repeated during the ceremonies for Baptism. All this leads to union with Our Lord in Holy Communion.

The First Novena

Pentecost Sunday 2018
Before the Epistle and Gospel for the feast of Pentecost we hear about St. Gregory VII and St. Philip Neri.  After nine days of prayer from the Ascension the birthday of the Church took place with the coming of the Holy Ghost.  The Person of Love completed the preparation of the apostles for their mission to convert the world to the one Faith and worship through the many charisms including the preaching which enabled all to understand their speech.  O Holy Spirit, Soul of my soul, strengthen me, console me. Amen.

The Greatest Peace

Sunday After The Ascension 2018
Heaven became our home at the Ascension when Christ entered it.  Now no matter what happens to us in our daily lives we can live in the security and hope of eternal happiness with Our Lord.  As members of the Mystical Body of Christ we are destined to live where our Head is.  He promised that He was going to prepare a place for us and the Ascension time reminds us of this pledge.

His Heavenly Priesthood

Ascension Thursday Evening 2018
Christ ascended today and began His heavenly priesthood which had begun on earth at the Annunciation.  The sacred Liturgy is the expression of the sacrifice of our Eternal High Priest.  The apostles returned to the Cenacle after the Ascension and gathered around the Blessed Mother to pray and to be one in mind and heart as they awaited the coming of the Holy Ghost.

Watch And Be Ready

Last Sunday after Pentecost 2017

As we conclude the liturgical year, we should still be praying for the Holy Souls in Purgatory while examining our lives to test whether or not we have grown in love of God and neighbor.  Christ in today’s Gospel prophesied the destruction of Jerusalem and the end of the world.  He warns us to be ready always and to avoid any false Christs and false prophets who are people and organizations that are not Catholic.

The Visible Reign of the Holy Ghost

Pentecost Sunday 2017

On Pentecost Sunday the Holy Ghost manifested Himself under the two visible signs of wind and fire.  The wind stirred the pilgrims who were in the city for the Jewish feastday and drove them to the Upper Room where they heard the Apostles speaking in all their languages of the wonderful works of God.  The Apostles were able to do this after the Holy Ghost had appeared to them in parted tongues of fire and rested upon each of them.  This visible theophany marked the beginning of the sanctification of the world which the Holy Ghost will accomplish until the end of time.

The Ascension Makes Us Happy

Ascension Thursday 2017

We learn several things on this feast day.  The dogma that Christ returned to heaven on Ascension Thursday was revealed by the angels who told the apostles.  Among Our Lord’s last words were His instructions not to worry about the future because the Father in His Providence will take care of everything and to go forth and preach the Gospel.  Most importantly, today heaven became our home because Our Savior, the Head of the Mystical Body of which we are members, is there preparing a place for us.

Mother’s Day

Fourth Sunday after Easter 2017

This Mass prepares us for the upcoming feasts of the Ascension and Pentecost when Our Lord returns to heaven and sends the Holy Ghost.  This day is also a secular holiday in which we honor our mothers.  Falling as it does during the month of May our thoughts naturally turn to our heavenly Mother and all that she has done for us.  A tangible sign of this comes under her title of “Queen of Peace” which was added to her litany and soon afterwards led to her apparitions at Fatima and the end of the first World War.

Peace Of Conscience

9th Sunday after Pentecost

The life of St. Mary Magdalen is a perfect example of the serenity that comes to anyone who converts from sin and begins to love God above all else.  The Act of Contrition is our way of imitating this holy penitent.  St. Camillus is another case of a beautiful conversion which led him to express his love of God through heroic care for the sick and dying.  Finally, this sermon gives several practical ways of living a spiritual life in today’s world.  It explains the difference between temptation and sin and how to deal with both.  Discerning God’s Will for us requires prayer, reflection and counsel.
