A Place For Sinners

Sermon From The
3rd Sunday after Pentecost 2013
The Church reminds us in the Introit of this Mass, just as she did at the beginning of the liturgical year, to lift up our souls to God.  We have been given the Holy Ghost in this season to carry us to our goal.  The first half of the liturgical year culminates in the feast of the Holy Trinity.  We have a long journey ahead to become saints.  God gave many promises to the souls who love the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  We are called to practice devotion to the Christ’s Heart during this month.

Pentecost And The Holy Ghost

Pentecost Sunday 2013
Father begins by explaining the beauty and meaning of the Pentecost vestments that were given to him on his anniversary of ordination. The sermon continues in describing that today begins the visible reign of the Holy Ghost Who is called the forgotten Person of Love. Pentecost and its octave close out the Paschal season and the connection between this feast and our redemption is a summary of this liturgical part of the year. We are in much need for the coming of the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity into our spiritual life as was the case for the Apostles. These loyal disciples of Our Lord were profoundly changed by the coming of the Paraclete and so are we.

Blessed are the Obedient

7th Sunday After Pentecost 2012

There is no dignity or honor in this life greater than that of the priest – a dignity which surpasses even the angels in Heaven.  Our Lord Himself speaks through the priest at Mass and in the confessional.  Christ called His priests the “light of the world,” the same title He gave to Himself.

We have an obligation to know our catechism.  It is very difficult to distinguish the wolves from the sheep if we are not well informed about our faith.  If we had the same degree of enthusiasm for our spiritual life as we did for our past sins, we would surely save our souls.  Those who are obedient and seek opportunities to sacrifice their will for the sake of others will be blessed in this life and the next.  We can find few examples of heroic self-sacrifice greater than that of the North American Martyrs.

The Central Doctrine of Our Faith

Trinity Sunday 2012
Belief in the Holy Trinity is necessary for our salvation.  Every Mass renews the Passion and death of Our Lord, in which He offers Himself to the Father through the Holy Ghost.  Although there were hints of this doctrine even in the Old Testament, it was not until the public life of Christ that it was clearly taught to the believers.  All Persons are co-equal and co-eternal.  The Father is the Unbegotten, the Son is the Only Begotten, and the Holy Spirit proceeds from both the Father and the Son.  Today we must thank the Trinity for creating us and making us the children of God through Baptism.  All those in the state of grace possess the Holy Trinity dwelling within their souls.

A Place Waiting For You

Pentecost Sunday 2012

With the celebration of Memorial Day, we should always remember that the soldiers who have served our country, both living and dead, are in need of our prayers.  Apart from the discussion of the politics and morality of war, these people who have suffered and died for us deserve our spiritual help.

Our Lord’s visible reign on Earth ended on the feast of the Ascension and on that day, Heaven became our home.  All the joys and pleasures of this world are as shadows compared to the happiness of Heaven.  The Holy Ghost was sent to mankind so that the presence of God would not be limited to the physical presence of Christ on Earth, but that it might be spread throughout the entire world.  There is a childhood, adolescence, and adulthood in the spiritual life which mirrors that of our natural development.  The Apostles passed through these stages as we all must, and their development reached its final stage on this day.  From that moment on, the Apostles were confirmed in grace and preserved from committing any grave sin.

The Power of Extreme Unction

Sunday After The Ascension 2012
Even after the apparent death of a person, the priest should be called, because we do not know when the soul leaves the body and Extreme Unction can be given conditionally even some time after apparent death.  It is of the utmost importance to pray with those who are dying.  Despite what the Modernists say, the sacrament of Extreme Unction was not an invention of the Medieval Church but is referred to by the earliest writings of the Church Fathers.  When we pray for someone and perform acts of charity, we help remove the temporal punishment due to our neighbor’s sins.  Let your attitude be one of constant pray.

The Extraordinary Gift of Faith

Today is one of the only times when a dogma of the Faith was proclaimed by the angels. Our Lord predicted that the preaching of the Apostles would be confirmed by the miracles they would work.  Even a cursory knowledge of Church history gives ample confirmation of these words.  Miracles aid in belief, but they do not cause the virtue of faith.  We should pray for an increase of faith every day of our lives.

The Apostles were commanded on this day to make the world Christian, and we are put to shame when we remember the heroism of the missionaries who sacrificed their lives to follow that command.

Our Lord has prepared a throne for us in Heaven and gives us a foretaste of this coming happiness every time He comes to us in Holy Communion.

The True Origin of Mankind

Sexagesima Sunday 2012
We must be on guard against the pseudoscience preached today in an attempt to undermine belief in God.  The teaching that the human soul is a more highly evolved version of the soul of a brute animal is false and is in direct contradiction to the teachings of Holy Scripture.  The Church has never denied the adaptation of animals to their environment, but there is no proof of evolution as it is taught by the enemies of the Church.

During this season it is important to understand the meaning of indulgences and how efficacious they are for our eternal welfare.
