A Mystery Beyond All Understanding

4th Sunday In Lent – Laetare Sunday 2026
St. Patrick was kidnapped as a boy and taken to Ireland.  After his miraculous escape, he studied in Europe and eventually became a priest and bishop.  He returned to Ireland to preach to its inhabitants and, by the grace of God, converted that nation.

Today Holy Mother the Church gives us a respite from the suffering of Lent so we might celebrate that we are so close to the glory of Easter.  This Gospel reminds us that everything was created for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, because the miracle recounted today foreshadows the Eucharistic Sacrifice.  The reverence shown to the bread and fishes which were multiplied and distributed point to the love and reverence we must give the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar.  We should pray to grow in our appreciation of this unfathomable gift.

In the Steps of Heroes

Quinquagesima Sunday 2026
Reading the lives of the saints reminds us that we too can become saints. Lent is about to begin, and we should be looking for ways to pray, fast, and give. We should go to Mass more often, pray the Rosary daily, and practice spiritual reading to learn about the God we wish to love.
We have been under the guidance of St. Paul, and he has told us that we are called to conquer ourselves. The only thing that counts in the end is sanctifying grace and our sanctification. Charity is the motive for everything we do during this season. This week’s great patriarch is Abraham, the patriarch of faith, because coupled with our charity we must believe. If we live correctly this Lent, we will be able to truly mean what we say when renewing our baptismal vows this Easter.

The Eternal Wedding Feast

2nd Sunday after Epiphany 2026

St. Agnes had many suitors who asked for her hand in marriage, but she desired to remain a perpetual virgin.  The governor said that if she did not submit to marriage, they would forcefully take her virginity.  But she replied that God would protect her, and so He did.  Virginity is a virtue that is particularly pleasing to God.

This Gospel is a perfect example of the Virgin Mary fulfilling her role as Mediatrix of All Graces.  Those who would deny her this role are enemies of God.  The miracle of turning water into wine is a promise of the Mass which would be instituted, in which wine is turned into Christ’s Blood.  The entire universe revolves around the Mass.  Here on the altar we have Heaven renewed.  Heaven will be the eternal Mass and the eternal wedding feast.

Christmas Morning 2025
Holy Mother Church celebrates three unique Masses on this day to relive the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ.  The Mass at Midnight expresses the Son being begotten from all eternity from the Father.  The Mass at Dawn emphasizes the temporal birth of our incarnate Lord.  The Mass celebrated this morning calls to mind the spiritual birth of Christ in each of our individual souls.  How blessed we are to have been given the True Faith in its entirety.  The Gospel for this Mass is taken from the beginning of St. John’s Gospel.  We read that the Word was in the beginning with God and that the Word is God.  Today we tell Christ that we will live and die for Him.  The greatest of all gifts we have received is the divine life we possess in our souls. If we refuse to give up this gift, then we have already won.

The Attacks on God’s Church

Evil has existed in the world from the very beginning and within the Church since the time of the Apostles.  Throughout the ages, the devil has attempted time and again to attack and destroy the true Church.  In recent times, the Church was infiltrated by communists and freemasons.  The abuses introduced by the Second Vatican Council were in direct defiance of Pope St. Pius V’s Quo Primum and the perennial teaching and practice of Catholics.  The unprecedented crisis we find ourselves in today is a clear demonstration of the fruits of this council.  We should thank God often for what he has given us in these times of persecution.  We should look forward to receiving the Son of God on Christmas Day as Our Lady and St. Joseph desired to see Him before He entered the world.

Follow Truth in Adversity

Last Sunday after Pentecost 2025
Today concludes the time after Pentecost and the liturgy warns us about the frightful circumstances which will accompany the end of time and the signs which prefigure it. Every man who ever lived, whether they were in Heaven or Hell will face the General Judgment. The just will receive their glorified bodies and be carried to Heaven, while God’s enemies will receive hideous bodies which reflect their evil. We must abandon ourselves to God’s Will and seek to please Him in all we do.

In the face of the virulent attacks against the True Faith, we must remain strong and stand against the enemies of Christ as St. Athanasius did, who resisted the heretics of his day.

Requiem Æternam

All Souls Day Evening 2025
Although this is not a Holy Day of Obligation, faithful Catholics flock to the churches today so they may help the holy souls in Purgatory, who cannot help themselves.  Purgatory is a creation of love.  One must be perfect to enter Heaven, so God in His mercy gives souls a way to burn out the roots of their vices so they may freely receive their eternal reward.  This may be our very last All Souls’ Day Mass before we die.  The words “Requiem æternam done eis Domine” were found on the tombs of Christians of the third century.  The Church has adopted those words for this Mass.  We must take up the standard of the Catholics of years past and fervently pray for the dead.

Our Purgatory Now

All Souls Day 2025
The Commemoration of the Faithful Departed is not only for the benefit of the Church Suffering, but also for the benefit of all living Catholics.  Throughout the liturgy of this Mass, we are reminded of our own future judgment and how we too may be in need of the prayers of the living.  We must always remember that God is both infinitely merciful and infinitely just, and that He will demand an account, not only of our sins, but even of our time wasted.  Today is our reminder that we too must die one day, and that we must use the time God has allotted to us for the removal of sin, and the punishment due to it, from our souls.

The people of the world do not care for our eternal welfare.  If only one of us hears the message of Our Lord and takes it to heart, he will lift up everyone with him.  At this Mass we ask that God protect us from the defilements of the devil.  When we fall into sin the two consequences are guilt and punishment.  We are freed from guilt through the sacrament of Penance.  The debt of punishment may be removed through good works such as prayer, alms, fasting, as well as the indulgences granted by the Church.  We ask God to help us despise the things of this Earth, so we may rejoice in His heavenly gifts.  We must pray for the enemies of Christ especially during the month dedicated to the Holy Rosary.

The autobiography of St. Thérèse is one of the most enjoyable books to read in our modern times.  Innumerable miracles have been granted to the faithful through her intercession.

In today’s Gospel, Our Lord tells us to sit in the lowest place at the table, not to win the honor of all present, but due to an honest estimation of what we deserve.  Those who live in humility here on Earth will one day obtain Heaven, the higher place at the table.  Although God and all the saints in Heaven want us to be saved, some will be lost because they lack the great desire necessary.  Heaven must be the one thing in life we desire.  Everything else is incidental.  This Sunday is all about our holiness of life, and if we make up our minds, we could begin to live a holy life starting now.  At every Mass we are called to lift up our hearts to Heaven, now is the hour for us to do so.
