The Covenant Has Been Renewed

Easter Sunday 2013
We have now had the culmination of the whole Lenten season. We have been catechumens and penitents in preparation for our union with Christ in the Holy Eucharist. Now we walk with Christ in the liturgy. Our Lenten time of training began with the season of examination, then we had to follow Christ to Jerusalem. The Blessed Mother offered her Son on the Cross for each one of us. We have now renounced Satan and proclaimed our faith. We may be small and afraid, just as the Apostles were, but Our Lord had not forgotten them and he has not forgotten us. All order is restored by Christ’s words, “peace be to you.”

Joy Amidst Suffering

Conference On Purgatory
1st Friday November 2012
The Holy Souls in Purgatory experience eviternity, or what is called discontinuous time, which is that time which measures the change in a soul.  God lives in a reality independent of time, and one might say that the souls in Purgatory live in a reality between time and eternity.  If one dies without being completely prepared, the presence of God would be too intense for the soul to endure.  It must first be purified completely before seeing God, and this is the reason for Purgatory.  The joy experienced in Purgatory is like the joy of Heaven amidst suffering.

The Sacrament of Perfect Union

Feast Of Corpus Christi 2012
On this day, a priest recognizes the purpose of his existence.  Before his duty of teaching and saving souls, the priest exists for the Holy Eucharist.  If a priest does not understand this, he is no true priest.  St. Bonaventure tells us that if this sacrament were to be taken from the Church we would have nothing but infidelity and error, and the Christian people would be no better than a herd of unclean animals.  We see these prophetic words proven true in our own day.  This day was instituted at the request of Our Lord to confirm faith in His true presence, to strengthen the faithful on their way to virtue by their love of the Blessed Sacrament, and finally, to make reparations for attacks against Our Lord in the tabernacle.  We should express our belief that Our Lord is truly present in the Sacrament of the Altar as soon as we enter the Church and kneel before Him.

Our Daily Duty

5th Sunday after Easter 2012
As we near the end of this season of great happiness, the Church never ceases to rejoice. St. James gives practical advice in this Epistle for the practice of virtue and avoidance of bad example. The theme of this Mass is one of prayer and sacrifice.

On this day on which we congratulate our mothers, we must remember the primary purpose of marriage and the evil of artificial contraception. The vocations most attacked by the world are those sacramental vocations of marriage and the priesthood. We thank God for the gift of good mothers who work alongside the priests for the salvation of souls.

The Remedy for All Weakness

Holy Thursday 2012

On this night we celebrate the institution of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and Holy Orders.  Who would forgive our sins and give us the sacraments of Christ had He not founded the priesthood?  Just as He humbled Himself before the Apostles in the washing of their feet, God Almighty surrenders Himself to us in the gift of His being in the Holy Eucharist.  On this night, in the stripping of the altars, we also remember the great attacks and abuses Christ endured at the beginning of His Passion and still endures in offenses against the Blessed Sacrament today.  The Holy Mass is the most effective means of conversion from and reparation for sin.  How many misfortunes do Catholics face because of their neglect or abuse of the greatest gift of God on Earth – the Holy Mass?  Our Lord desires to come to us, concealing His omnipotent power, so that we might feel welcomed to approach Him.
