Prepare For The Second Coming

Sermon From
9th Sunday After Pentecost 2013
During the announcements today we learn what things are necessary for the upcoming Confirmations.  This Mass is a warning so we are ready when Our Lord returns for the Final Judgment.  Jerusalem and people in general live lives of distraction which deflects their attention from the important things in life and this renders them oblivious to Christ on the day of His visitation.  If we heed the words of the Epistle and Gospel we will have a clear conscience and receive Jesus as we should.

The Sign Of His Love

Sermon From
The Feast Of The Precious Blood 2013
The shedding of Our Lord’s Precious Blood is a sublime and essential truth of our Faith.  Many clergy and laity have easily fallen away because they did not appreciate this and other truths of God.  We fall by degrees and not mortally immediately.  We must maintain our fervor and love in this life because it is more important on earth than knowing much.  We can only love that for which we have suffered.  The history of this feast shows its importance in modern times to overcome the particular dangers that attack Christ and His Mystical Body.  The Blood of the Savior redeemed us and is the everlasting token of how much He loves us.  We are granted to receive this life giving refreshment whenever we receive Holy Communion.

He Craves Our Love

Sermon From
The Feast Of The Sacred Heart 2013
It is sad how feasts like this one have been neglected by priests in the past to the detriment of the devotion of the faithful.  Our Lord came to St. Margaret Mary, showed her His Heart and with other things said that even consecrated souls mistreated Him.  Pope Pius XII taught that no Catholic is free from practicing this devotion because it is so essential to the Christian life of sacrifice and of returning love by reparation to God.  The Heart of Our Savior beats ceaselessly with deep affection for each of us and for mankind as a whole.  We must reciprocate by imitating Christ’s life in our own as the saints have especially those with the stigmata.

Draw All Things To Myself

Sermon From
The Feast Of Corpus Christi 2013
St. Bonaventure warned that removal of the Blessed Sacrament from the Church would leave the people like a herd of animals. St. Paul in the Epistle gives a monitum about irreverence to the Holy Eucharist in his day. What about our times? This feast has a special history because of its origin around a miracle. St. Thomas Aquinas composed the texts for this Mass and today’s Divine Office. The teaching about this sacred gift from God is clear and separates our true Church from all other false religions. Christ died to give us Himself in this way and it is sacrilegious, ungrateful and irreverent to treat the Sacrament of His Body and Blood in anything less than a loving and devout manner.

He Reigns Despite His Enemies

Christ the King 2012

There are so many people in the world who sincerely wish to participate in a feast like today but are not able.  We should be all the more grateful that we have been given this privilege.  As the liturgical year comes to its conclusion, representing the end of time, this feast reminds us that on that final day all nations will be compelled to recognize the supreme dominion of Christ over the entire world and stands as a warning to all those who refuse to do so now.  The feast of All Saints celebrates those who were loyal subjects to their King during this life.  This feast was meant to combat secularism, which is so widespread in our society.  The “state” has taken the place of God in our world.  However, religion is not a private matter, and it is of the very nature of man to practice religion, and publicly so.  Christ is King because He is God and deserves our obedience and adoration.  Christ is also man and through His Grace of Headship He unites all creation in His very being.  It is through glorifying our King we gain our ultimate happiness.

Lose Yourself in His Heart

Feast Of The Sacred Heart 2012

It has been said that the heart of St. Paul was the Heart of Christ, because he learned to be Christlike through his sufferings.  He understood Our Lord not merely theoretically but experientially.  That is why his words are used for this Mass.

The Gospel for this Mass was chosen because it recalls the moment that the Sacred Heart was opened to pour out divine life to us all.  In the Eucharistic miracle of Lanciano, it was His Sacred Heart that Our Lord chose to show to the world.  We live in the days of a cold and loveless society which is more in need of this devotion than ever.  If we familiarize ourselves with the details of St. Margaret Mary’s life, we will come to appreciate why Christ chose her to propagate this devotion.  Our Lord told her that the burning love of His Sacred Heart could no longer be contained, and that this devotion will be His last gift to mankind in this latter age of the world.

The Sacrament of Perfect Union

Feast Of Corpus Christi 2012
On this day, a priest recognizes the purpose of his existence.  Before his duty of teaching and saving souls, the priest exists for the Holy Eucharist.  If a priest does not understand this, he is no true priest.  St. Bonaventure tells us that if this sacrament were to be taken from the Church we would have nothing but infidelity and error, and the Christian people would be no better than a herd of unclean animals.  We see these prophetic words proven true in our own day.  This day was instituted at the request of Our Lord to confirm faith in His true presence, to strengthen the faithful on their way to virtue by their love of the Blessed Sacrament, and finally, to make reparations for attacks against Our Lord in the tabernacle.  We should express our belief that Our Lord is truly present in the Sacrament of the Altar as soon as we enter the Church and kneel before Him.

The Central Doctrine of Our Faith

Trinity Sunday 2012
Belief in the Holy Trinity is necessary for our salvation.  Every Mass renews the Passion and death of Our Lord, in which He offers Himself to the Father through the Holy Ghost.  Although there were hints of this doctrine even in the Old Testament, it was not until the public life of Christ that it was clearly taught to the believers.  All Persons are co-equal and co-eternal.  The Father is the Unbegotten, the Son is the Only Begotten, and the Holy Spirit proceeds from both the Father and the Son.  Today we must thank the Trinity for creating us and making us the children of God through Baptism.  All those in the state of grace possess the Holy Trinity dwelling within their souls.

The Extraordinary Gift of Faith

Today is one of the only times when a dogma of the Faith was proclaimed by the angels. Our Lord predicted that the preaching of the Apostles would be confirmed by the miracles they would work.  Even a cursory knowledge of Church history gives ample confirmation of these words.  Miracles aid in belief, but they do not cause the virtue of faith.  We should pray for an increase of faith every day of our lives.

The Apostles were commanded on this day to make the world Christian, and we are put to shame when we remember the heroism of the missionaries who sacrificed their lives to follow that command.

Our Lord has prepared a throne for us in Heaven and gives us a foretaste of this coming happiness every time He comes to us in Holy Communion.

Supply What I Lack

Easter Sunday 2012
We pray that we may receive all the benefits of this Mass.  The Mass of today, the greatest of all feasts, is the crown of the liturgical year.  The historical event is made present again at the Mass.  The Resurrection is the central doctrine of the whole Catholic Church.  Christ came for the purpose of saving us.  When we receive Holy Communion at the Mass today, we can receive any graces we did not obtain this Lent.
