The Enemy Will Fall
4th Sunday after Pentecost 2026
All fatherhood on Earth is a reflection of the paternity of our unbegotten Father in Heaven, and all fatherhood receives its name from Him. We are commanded to honor our fathers, both living and dead. The calling of priests by the name “father” is not a violation of Our Lord’s command. We refer to priests in this way because they give the more important life of Sanctifying Grace to souls in the sacrament of Baptism.
The story of Saints John and Paul, and how they have been maligned, from ancient to modern times, is an example of the danger and lasting effects of propaganda.
In the Divine Office, we read the story of David and Goliath. St. Augustin explains that Goliath and his army represent the devil and his cohort, who seek to destroy the Church, while David, carrying his staff, is the symbol of Christ with His Cross. The stone hurled at Goliath is the rock of the Church which causes the enemy to fall. God watches over us at all times, provides for our every need, and our hope remains in Him.
