Ss. Simon and Jude

October 28, 2016

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 28 of October, repeating indefinitely

Celebrated on the same day, Saints Simon and Jude appear together in the Canon of the Mass, possibly because they both preached the Gospel in Mesopotamia and Persia. St. Simon was zealous for the honor of his Master, and exact in all the duties of the Christian religion. He showed a pious indignation towards those who professed this holy faith with their mouths, but dishonored it by the irregularity of their lives.  St. Jude is the author of a short Epistle which forms part of the New Testament. He reminds us to always have before our eyes the great obligation we lie under of incessantly building up our spiritual edifice of charity, by praying to the Holy Ghost, growing in the love of God, and imploring his mercy through Christ.

[Feria – our saint is in today’s martyrology but not on the universal calendar]
