Commemoration of the Baptism of Our Lord

January 13, 2025

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 13 of January, repeating indefinitely

Epiphany, the manifestation of the Lord: guided by this thought the East has made the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist the central theme of its feast on January 6, the voice of the Father, the descent of the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove, the testimony of John, all constituting the great manifestation of the divine Personality of our Savior as He was about to begin His public life. The West, struck more particularly by the adoration of the Magi, has transferred the scene on the Jordan to the former octave day. Sanctified by the baptism of Jesus the waters receive forever the power to sanctify in the Holy Spirit all those who are called to receive Christian baptism. There was no better occasion, since the suppression of the octave of the Epiphany, for the Commemoration of the Baptism of Christ, the manifestation both of His divinity and of the work of transformation that He comes to effect in our human lives.
