Victory Against All Odds

Among all the holy days of obligation, today is unique because this is our Mass. Our goal is to stand among the saints celebrated on this day. As Catholics we know that the saints are so many reflections of the perfections of God, and this feast honors God in His saints. The saints are the examples of triumph in the face of the greatest adversity and against all odds. In the Book of Machabees, we are given beautiful examples of saintly heroism that God Himself wants us to know, through His inspired word.

We must pray that God will grant us the secrets of this liturgy so we may be blessed with the courage and perseverance exemplified by the Church Triumphant. In the Epistle we are told about the seal of the saved on their forehead, in reference to the sacrament of Baptism, and the Gospel calls us to come to Christ through the beatitudes. Our Lady leads us into the company of the saints; she who knew how to hear the word of God and keep it. People of the world seek after senseless distractions, thinking us foolish. Yet, if we persevere, we will one day rest in the happiness of Heaven.
