Sermon

From the Throne of His Cross

Today we honor the Son of God as King of Heaven and Earth. This feast day finds its origins in Palm Sunday, when His people were inspired to proclaim Our Lord King. In the last century, Pope Pius XI promulgated the Encyclical Quas Primas to denounce the errors of the world and proclaim Christ’s kingship. Those who are good and humble of heart will submit to His divine rule. Our King shows His regal power through His Mystical Body on Earth, which is why His feast was fittingly placed beside the feast of All Saints and All Souls Day. His throne is the Cross, so if we are to imitate our King as loyal subjects, we must take up our crosses daily. Our Lord has complete mastery over all creation, and in the Mass we offer fitting honor to our Creator. He does everything possible to help us avoid the loss of our souls. Who could name a king throughout history who so abased himself to save his people. We are here to turn the tide against Our Lord’s enemies in the world. We must thank and adore Him daily, not out of servile obligation, but with the deepest love. We are happy to suffer in union with our King.
