The Call of the Saints

In AD 607, the temple which was once dedicated to all the gods of the Romans was rededicated to the Blessed Virgin and all the saints by Pope Boniface IV. This was the beginning of our day in honor of all the saints. We celebrate this feast to thank God for the saints He has made, to remind us of our complete dependence on His help, and to ask God, through the intercession of His saints, that we may one day be counted among their number. It is true that the universe was made for the glory of God, and God is glorified in His saints because they are his greatest works. They are our great models on Earth, because not only can we be saints in this life, but we must be. We have numerous examples of sanctity found in every possible state of life. Heaven is filled with millions who were once sinners and are now saints. We can hear them calling us to join them, if we would only listen.
